The Lost Woods - Adaptogenic Broth Blend (returning in Autumn)

The Lost Woods - Adaptogenic Broth Blend (returning in Autumn)

The hearth is lit and warmly invites us to sit by it once more with broths, soups and winter stews.

I especially adore broths, packed full of minerals and healing nourishment that is absorbed deeply and spreads out around our bodies as we take each sip.

I wanted to create a broth that was flavourful to drink alone, but also as a great base to add things to such as meat, whole mushrooms, sweet potato’s or even rice or glass noodles, the options are endless.

By adding a small splash of sweet chilli, fresh coriander and a squeeze of lime I could have Thai twist broth or maybe some thin noodles and a little fish for a tasty ramen.
A broth is definitely my go craving if I’m feeling under the weather.

I decided to make this mix without any salt or sugar so everyone can create with it how they like. I did add Noosh to give it a deep taste however. All the ingredients are vegan friendly.

The extra herbs I’ve added bring even more food medicine to this broth, adaptogens in the form of Siberian ginseng and ashwaganda. Turmeric and black pepper for inflammation and my special blend of healing wild mushrooms with added shiitake and reshi along with amazing healing burdock root.

So many lovely herbs and Unami flavours, to bring balance to our hard working autumn and winter bodies.
They are all amazing at working synergistically to create a gentle and warming boost as we compost what we no longer need and move towards slowing down with natures cycles and encourage our new roots.

Use as little or as much as you like, my preference is a ruff handful of the blend with three cups of water, making sure to get a good mix of all the ingredients to brew the best tasting broth. It takes around 15 mins or more, simmer to release all the flavours, I especially like to cook it slowly on top of my wood fire for an extra cosy vibe.

Once it’s ready, I strain and add in anything else I feel like that day, sometimes though it’s just nice as it is.
Plant broths are so comforting to sip on through the day or as part of bigger meal. It’s up to you how you use this blend! Get creative!

The lost woods is one of my favourite levels in the Zelda game (yes I’m a gaming nerd, surprise!) and I just loved the idea of finding some lost haunted woods that were full of healing plants and mushroom medicine, with the option to craft meals on a stove too in this game, my escapism was complete and I’ve dreamed about it since.

Another reason I have used mushrooms as my main base, is because not only are they incredibly healing and tasty, but as a ode to my dear grandad who as many of you know, regularly took my mushroom hunting on the moor tops and in the woods as a child. The joy on his face when we found one as big as dinner plate will stay with me always.

I hope you enjoy this grounding broth and take a flask out on your mushroom hunting days or even just for a autumn stroll with the dog. I hope it warms your body and fills your home with comforting scents and apologies to those who have ever so patiently waited three years for this broth blend to be released!
I just kept missing the window, the labels were even made 2 years ago and have been sat here staring at me…I do believe everything happens for a reason and this year it feels like we will all need an amazing broth more than ever.

Love Gem x
